Some of St. Augustine's thoughts on suffering

"For, in the same fire, gold gleams and straw smokes; under the same flail the stalk is crushed and the grain threshed; the lees are not mistaken for oil because they have issued from the same press. So, too, the tide of trouble will test, purify, and improve the good, but beat, crush, and wash away the wicked. So it is that, under the weight of the same affliction, the wicked deny and blaspheme God, and the good pray to Him and praise Him. The difference is not in what people suffer but in the way they suffer. The same shaking that makes fetid water stink makes perfume issue a more pleasant odor."

St. Augustine (The City of God)

Great quote! I'm seeing this played out right now in the lives of some of our friends. They tried for at least a couple of years to get pregnant, and their baby boy just died in utero at 18 weeks. They are so sad! Yet, the glory and fragrance of the Lord are reflected in their lives whether they are crying or rejoicing because their baby is with the Lord. They are able to express their sadness, because their weakness is clearly pointing to the Lord's glory, majesty, and ultimate good for their lives. What a blessing it is to see them walking WELL through this trial. The Lord is sustaining them, and they are pointing to him!

By the way, GREAT look to your page! I love the colors and contrast all over the place! Amber's going to have to be careful though. She's going to have all kinds of requests for paintings when people see her work posted on your page! :)
